Mondays. Mondays were truly the worst and cold wet Mondays certainly weren't any better. It had snowed the day before and it'd been lovely. The first true snowfall of the winter. However now the snow had stopped and instead had been replaced with a slow steady drizzle.
He adjusted his bag and stared up into the night sky. It was dark, as usual, but it was even darker really with the sky filled with heavy wet clouds. Usually in this sort of weather he'd be in his shop blasting something something and organizing his records as he hummed along. But not tonight and besides it's not like anyone came in on monday, or tuesday, or wednesday... He shook his head with a sigh. At least the last few weeks before had been good to him. He pulled his jacket tighter around him and adjusted his leather satchel and took off down the sidewalk dodging people left and right in the busy Manhattan sidewalks. Even in this nasty weather there were people everywhere. All the tourists were slipping into stores and balancing bags and boxes as they shuffled along the streets looking for the next good shop. The locals rushed out of their offices and towards the trains ready to get home after a hard day of work.
He was stuck somewhere in between as he moved through the sea of people. One of the advantages of being tall is that you bumped in to far less people as you towered over them. Though that didn't help him too much today as he was sort of lost. Not physically but mentally. He'd felt that way ever since a few months back. When everything was happening. He didn't feel right. He'd upset a lot of his friends and it'd taken a lot out of him. What little sleep he got was halved and that was only when his body was physically too tired to continue. He felt like a zombie. He'd pushed through it, and the cheerful colours and sounds of the holidays helped but weather like this? It seemed to remind him that all those things had happened. Like a giant slap to the face of sorts.
He sighed as he made his way down some steps walking down to where dozens of people stood, pushing his way past the lot of them and looking up at the large tree they all stood in front of. It probably wasn't nice to stand there ruining the shot for anyone who was taking it but... he needed this right now. He looked up at the tree craning his neck and sliding his umbrella to rest on his shoulder.
"Such a lovely tree this year." He said to no one as he admired the glowing tree which seemed to illuminate the stormy night. He sighed as he took a look around. Most people were wrapped up pulling the typical tourist thing. But there was one young woman who stood there staring at the tree in a fashion he was very familiar with. She was soaking wet and looked like she'd had a long day. He knew that feeling too and he nodded as he moved over and placed his umbrella over her and she startled slightly as he offered her a smile.
"Here, you might need this if you're going to be here for a while." Without so much as time to argue he handed her the umbrella and walked off.
